Anti-galamsey taskforce goes wild; burns excavators

The minerals and mining acts Offences and Penalties state that all confiscated equipment in relation to mining must be reserved in police custody

The joint military and police taskforce deployed to help curb illegal mining has defied the Minerals and Mining Act 2015. Section 99, as they confiscated and set ablaze six excavators on Tuesday morning at Bamso and Kwabeng, all in the Eastern Region.

Popularly known as ‘Galamsey’, the illegal mining menace has destroyed water bodies and caused devastating ‘destructions to the various communities in which the practice endemic.
